Who are Registered Massage Therapists?

Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are members of the Registered Massage Therapist Association of Ontario (RMTAO), and regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). These massage therapists have completed of at least 2 years, with 2,200 hours diploma program and have passed written and practical Ontario board exams. Their program included extensive anatomy, physiology, pathology, physical assessment and massage therapy education. They are also required to participate in continuing education courses to keep their skills up to date and learn new techniques. RMTs work closely with other health care practitioners such as family doctors, chiropractors, physiotherapists to optimize the well being of their clients.

What can I expect when I come for my first massage treatment?

It is helpful if you can arrive 10 minutes early to fill out the required health history intake forms. It is important to disclose any health concerns or medications you are currently taking. This information will allow your therapist to decide whether massage is appropriate for you or which modifications will need to be made. Your therapist will take you into the treatment room to discuss the reasons you are seeking the massage treatment. She will then ask for your consent to assess and treat. You will be made clear of how to get on the table and undressing for your treatment
